Hospital Donations

#26 Colonel Moore Branch, Banff, of the Royal Canadian Legion has made many donations over the years to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Donations for equipment for the Hospital have been made from the Branch Poppy Fund to the Emergency Department, the Acute Care unit, the Hospital Lab and St. Martha’s place.

Glenn Mathews, Occupational Therapist and Randy Van Dorsten, CD, Poppy Chairman for the #26 Colonel Moore Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion stand behind resident Opal Bensted and Lucy Poucette seated in the two new Sit Stand reclining chairs for St. Martha’s Place long term care facility at the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. The chairs were purchased for $2,700.00 with money from the Banff Legion Poppy fund.

  • 2012 Mineral Springs Hospital purchased Emergency room equipment and a TV for the Waiting room for $6,600.00 and St. Martha’s purchased a stand sit ergonometer for exercising for $2,765.00.
  • 2011 A television, a wheelchair, a mannequin CPR trainer, a Fetal Doppler, a sit stand reclining chair and Roho cushions for the wheelchair for$4,700.00. All equipment was purchased for the Acute Care unit. As well two new Sit Stand reclining chairs for

  • The Banff Legion Poppy fund also made a $4,000.00 donation to the Legion Veterans Outward bound Program in 2011.
  • 2010 A GEM 4000 Blood Gas Analyzer for $8,000.00 for the Lab and $1800.00 and 2 new sit stand reclining chairs for St Martha’s long term care
  • 2009 A ambulance power stretcher, $11,500.00 and outdoor patio furniture for $879.00 for St. Martha’s
  • 2008 A module for carbon monoxide monitoring, $6,800.00 and a new industrial fridge for $2,360.00 for St. Martha’s
  • 2007 An Impax imaging device for the Emergency Department, $5,000.00
  • 2006 A new emergency room bed, $4,500.00 and a new upright fridge $1900.00
  • 2003-2005 A portable Ultrasound for the Emergency Department, $18,000.00
  • 2002 Operating room equipment for $5,254.25
  • 2001 A Blanket Warmer Cabinet, $6,320.00
  • 2000 A Vital Signs Monitor, $5,200.00
  • 1999 A Triple Channel Intra Venus Pump, $7,600.00
  • 1998 A fetal suction machine for the delivery room, $5,000.00
  • 1997 Two electronic Intra Venus pumps, $4,900.00.

Prior to 1997 records were inconclusive, incomplete, hard to find or unavailable to give an accurate picture of what Branch #26 gave to the Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. Many more donations have been made over the years to our Hospital but nothing more can be said with absolute certainty prior to 1997.
